Introducing our 2024-25 LCT-RN Scholars

Building upon the Life Course Intervention Research Network (LCIRN)'s successful LCIRN Scholar program, we are excited to introduce our 2024-2025 Cohort of Life Course Translational Research Network (LCT-RN) Scholars! This program offered through the HRSA-MCHB-funded Life Course Translational Research Network (LCT-RN), led by Neal Halfon MD MPH is aimed at early and mid-career researchers (post-docs, clinical scholars, junior faculty) across disciplines (e.g., medicine, public health, sociology, social work, psychology) with a focus on maternal and child health from a life course health development perspective. This career enhancement program will also be useful for more established researchers who wish to transition to life course translational research.

What does the program provide?

Training in Life Course Intervention Research concepts and frameworks, as well as specific skills and methods to support implementation of life course intervention and translational research. Life Course Intervention Research (LCIR) is a trans-disciplinary field, and trainings will include guest speakers with expertise in medicine, social work, public health, mental health, as well as family and community leaders.

Research Project Development: Scholars will be supported to identify an idea for a research project, workshop it with leading experts in the field of LCIR, and develop it into a pilot study. Scholars will be able to compete for limited LCT-RN pilot funds, and will be guided  to develop a larger application for ongoing funding. Projects must be intervention or translation-focused and based in the US states and territories.

Mentorship: Scholars will be paired with a mentor from the LCTRN who can support their research and professional development throughout the course of the year.

Research Nodes Membership: Each scholar will join one of the LCT-RN research nodes that best aligns with their interests. Nodes meet regularly and work on building the field through conceptual papers, collaborative projects, and proposals for future funding.

Funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) of the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), the Life Course Translational Research Network (LCT-RN) is a nationwide network of change makers, thought leaders and innovators dedicated to translating research into action. The LCT-RN works to optimize life course health trajectories for children and families by integrating—rather than merely aggregating— the knowledge, skills, tools, and expertise practitioners, patients, family members, community residents, researchers, and other stakeholders and participants can provide.
